· Two years' experience as a surgical technician in the OR required.

Education / Licensure / Certification – Required Prior to Patient Care Assignment

· Graduation from surgical technician program or equivalent training.

· High School Diploma or equivalency or evidence of higher education required.

· BLS certification

· Adheres to all policies and procedures.

· Clinical practice is consistent with Standards of Nursing.

· Successful completion of unit orientation.

· Successful completion of clinical competency validation.

· Successful completion of orientation and competency validation in the following services:

Long Beach Medical Center Operating Room:

Neurosurgical/plastic/maxillofacial, general/urological, cardiothoracic/vascular, orthopedic, ophthalmology/ENT.

Pay Range: $36.15/hr. - $41.60/hr.

Bonus: $3,000.00 – signing bonus available to external hires new to MHS employment, contingent upon satisfaction of employment requirements

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of a RN, scrubs for surgical procedures in the Operating Room as assigned. Provides safe cost-effective patient care throughout the preoperative, intra-operative, and post-operative periods to the Operating Room patient according to established LBMC standards.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

· Demonstrates the ability to safely and competently perform all aspects of surgical techniques/procedures.

· Demonstrates knowledge of the clinical information system and applies principles to patient documentation.

· Serves as a role model and assists new staff members or students.

· Serves as a preceptor for new employees/students in the scrub role.

· Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights. Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial and other sensitive material in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients and or employees.

· Demonstrates the ability to use good customer service skills by managing and acknowledging patient-family-significant other expectations.

· Demonstrates tact, sensitivity and discretion.

· Demonstrates the ability to integrate knowledge of job specific competencies.

· Ability to be at work and be on time.

· Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives.

· Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner.

· Ability to fulfill the on-call requirement of the department

· Ability to prioritize and multitask.

Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications.
