Surgical Technician

Department: Surgical Services / Operating Room
Schedule: Full-Time

The Operating Room Technician (OR Tech) prepares sterile instruments and surgical supplies for operative procedures and maintains the sterile field throughout surgery. The OR Tech provides sterile instruments and support to the surgeon and surgical team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care in the operating room.

• Prepare and organize sterile surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment for procedures.
• Maintain sterile field and aseptic technique during surgical cases.
• Provide surgeon and surgical team with sterile instruments and supplies during procedures.
• Perform instrument, sponge, and sharps counts according to operating room policy.
• Assist with operating room setup, turnover, and equipment preparation.
• Follow infection control, patient safety, and surgical services standards.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1.    High School Diploma or Equivalent or related experience required for new hires effective April 2014.

2.    Graduate of an ORT training program or on the job training with a minimum of 3 years experience (surgical setting preferred).

3.    Experience in scrubbing minor and major procedures in the generalized surgical specialties, (i.e., GYN, General and Plastics).

4.    Experience in scrubbing at least minor procedures in the specialty surgical areas (i.e., ortho, neuro, ENT, Uro. Etc.).

5.    Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
