Job Summary: Provides patient care for the unit/department by optimizing operations and organizational efficiencies while promoting a world class environment.
Essential Job Duties:
Professional Standards
Maintain sterility during surgical procedures.
Communicate and collaborate with RN and other multidisciplinary departments to coordinate the appropriate care for the surgical patients in the most efficient and highest quality.
Follow all relevant federal requirements, AORN standards, The Joint Commission standards, and hospital policies and procedures, when caring for the patient and performing other tasks.
Participate in unit and hospital wide Performance Improvement activities.
Provides direction and collaborates with team members to support a healthy work environment.
Provide education and be a resource to other staff members, students, and new orientees.
Pursue lifelong education staying current on professional changes and best practices of surgical technique.
Be a community leader and represent the surgical technologists profession beyond the walls of Good Samaritan.
Maintain yearly hospital wide and unit specific competencies.
Be responsible for your FTE hours.
Maintain financial responsibility in helping to stay within the unit's budget.
Communicate any issues with equipment and supplies with charge nurse, nurse manager, and inventory coordinator.
Actively participate in the Unit Base Council.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education -- Graduate of accredited surgical technician program. Certification in Surgical Technology required with the exception of staff granted grandfather status who must demonstrate competence as described in Indiana Code concerning professions and occupations. Certification . Basic Life Support. 15 continuing education units annually for grandfathered status.
Experience -- Previous hospital or healthcare experience, clinical experience.
Reports to: And takes direction from the Registered Nurse, Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, and/or Director of
the area.
