Our Labor and Delivery Unit was designed exclusively for new moms and babies. Woman’s has delivered more than 320,000 babies since our inception in 1968, but we still treat every birth as unique and special. Our patient rooms, designed by nurses, offer a home-like setting along with the assurance of having the most advanced technology available. A typical obstetrical patient includes antepartum, observation, outpatient testing, circulating cesarean deliveries, triage and laboring patients who are minimal to high-risk.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an accredited surgical tech program
- Two years of OB surgical tech experience is preferred
- Surgical Technologist certification preferred
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Maintains adequate supplies, instruments, and case carts; anticipating and planning for unit needs in view of patient census/status; obtains supplies from materials management and verifies sterility and dates of supplies.
- Checks and maintains cleanliness of delivery room, wiping walls, shelves, furniture and equipment daily and/or as needed or instructed. Assures that delivery room equipment and instruments are in working order.
- Assists the nurse or other hospital personnel in positioning patient and/or transporting patient to/from delivery room or other hospital unit in accord with good body mechanics and hospital procedures.
- Prepares sterile set-up for use in accord with sterile techniques and hospital procedures, including labeling all fluids and medications on the sterile field; wears protective garments and gear (e.g., goggles, gloves, gowns, etc.) in the delivery room in accord with hospital procedures.
- "Gowns and gloves" doctor in a timely manner and in accord with sterile techniques, anticipating the physician's needs and assisting with procedures by passing instruments, sponges, sutures, and other needed items. Assures correct count. Ensures sponge counter is used in every case.
- Accounts for instruments (speculums, under-bed pans, skytron lights, etc.) and communicates need for replacement/repair in a timely manner.
- Prepares case carts for return to sterile processing by disposing of paper goods, linen and sharp items in accord with infection control procedures; returns case cart to sterile processing in a timely manner.
- Performs unit coordinator and/or nurse aide duties competently, as assigned or as instructed (receiving patients, correct computer entries, transporting delivery specimens, blood or medicines).
- Orients, trains and assists new personnel as directed by Clinical Educator or Area Director; completes documentation of orientation as instructed.
- Reports to charge nurse promptly at start of shift, obtains and returns correct phones, responds immediately when called.
- Demonstrates flexibility in assignment of changes during shift.
- Performs other duties assigned by Department management according to policies and procedures and the mission of Woman's Hospital.
Hours:
Full-Time - Days (Combination of shifts between the hours of 7a and 7p)
Part-Time - Nights (Combination of shifts between the hours of 7p and 7a)
Pay:
Non-Certified $20.82 - $30.19 plus applicable shift differentials
Certified $22.91 - $33.22 plus applicable shift differentials
